Up in the Air-Birmingham Senior Photographer:

Birmingham, Ala.-A few weeks ago, I had the unique opportunity to photograph a young man (Tim) for a senior session.  His parents wanted a session in a setting that meant something to him.  I had remembered his mom mentioning that Tim LOVES to fly and was working towards getting his pilot’s license.  We immediately agreed that the session had to take place at the airport!

We headed out to the airport where, Tim flies, and had a great time!  It’s completely obvious that the sky is where he feels at home.  I’m sure it feels so freeing to be able to take off and leave all Earthly cares behind.

The Fort is Here!!!!-Photography Magazine:

Well, the time is FINALLY here.  I’m so excited to announce the HUGE project that has been in the works for three months now.

My friend, Nichole (of Nichole Burnett Photography) and I have been working on a photography magazine.  We noticed awhile back that a lot of photography inspiration tends to be girlie, and it rarely contains sessions with boys.  After researching some forums, that we belong to, we discovered that a lot of photographers have trouble getting inspired for boy sessions.

Nichole and I both have little guys, and they were our practice subjects as we learned photography.  In fact, for awhile, they were our only subjects. That helped us to become comfortable  photographing them in their element.  We wanted to take that experience and create a place that other photographers could go for inspiration.

During the planning of this magazine, we decided that we wanted to explain how we prepare for a session from conception to completion.  In addition to our session, each issue will feature a couple of other amazing photographers.  In the magazine there’s a rising star section and a seasoned pro section.

A lot of hard work went into this magazine, and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

I’d like to give a special thanks to the contributors to our first issue:
Trudy Engel (rising star)
Megan LaRussa (stylist)
Shannon Sewell (seasoned pro)
Erin Vaughn (illustration)
April Williams (graphic design)

I now present, The Fort!

I’m sorry that I’ve been slacking when it comes to posting images from the 52 week challenge.  I’ve been working on a really exciting project with Nichole Burnett Photography, and that’s been consuming a lot of my time lately.  I’m playing catch up, so here’s week 6, the theme was emotion.  I chose to capture BLISS.  I think we can all agree that the ice cream truck chiming through the neighborhood brings back a lot of great memories.  I must admit that no matter how old I am, I always feel a tinge of excitement when I hear those sweet melodies getting closer and closer.

She loves to sing.
Her melodies are simple & beautiful.
Her voice is sweet & tickles my ears.
I could listen all day long.
That is, if she’ll let me!

Week 4-Hoover Family Photographer:

Hoover, Ala.:

This week is week 4 of the My Four Hens photography challenge, and the theme is imperfection.  I thought that I would come up with some really deep way to express that word, until tonight.  During dinner we were sitting at the table discussing our days, when my son asked if we could go hunting for monsters.  For those of you that don’t know what that is, it’s when 2 or more people hide, and 2 people seek.  All the lights are turned off, so the seekers have to wear a head lamp and shoot the monsters with a Nerf gun.  We did this on Friday and the kids (and the hubby and I) had a BLAST!!!!

As we were getting ready to go upstairs and begin the game, it dawned on me that I should take some pictures of us playing.  After going through the images, I realized that these are perfect for this challenge.  Even though they are FAR from perfect technically speaking, these are images that I will truly cherish FOREVER!!!!  I’m going to share all of them rather than just one.

Loading the gun before the hunt begins.

Ack, I’ve been caught.  After shooting me, he had to reload.

He’s a fearless monster hunter.

Now, off to find that other pesky monster . . . I wonder where could he be?

Nope, not under here . . .

There he is!!!!  GET HIM . . . GET HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
